MATERIAL DEVELOPMENT IN ESP Introduction In language learning , material is anything which is used to help to teach language learners. materials can be found in the form of a textbook, a workbook, a cassette, a CD-Rom, a video, a photocopied handout, a newspaper, a paragraph written on a whiteboard: anything which presents or informs about the language being learned. (Tomlinson, 1998: xi). SYLLABUS DESIGN Introduction A syllabus is a specification of the content of the course of instruction and lists what will be taught and tested (Richard 2001:2). Thus the syllabus for speaking course might specify the kinds of oral skills that will be taught practiced during the course, the function, topics, or other aspects of conversation that will be taught and the other in which they will appear in the course. Nunan, (2001) defines a syllabus is a statement of content which is used as the basis for planning courses of various kinds. Therefore, a syllabus is a statement of content of a course of instruction and list what will be taught and tested during the course.
